Was GN and GL too real?

This past week in Excel, we watched Good Night and Good Luck. How did the incorporation of actual stock footage add to the overall credibility of the movie?

Did the stock footage go “over the edge” –becoming too real for a movie?

How has culture in the United States changed since the time portrayed in this movie?

Do we have a different mindset? Are we less ignorant?

I do not think that the stock footage was "over the edge" and too real for the movie. Directors and producers strive for movies to be as real as possible, and by adding original footage, they achieved that in GN&GL. People that don't know that it's actual footage may think that it's a bit over the top, but i do not agree.

Culture in the US has changed an unbelieveable amount since then. Congress has even passed laws against McCarthyism. People in the US still make assumptions about others, as do the rest of the human race. But, our government does not convict people without concrete evidence of crimes. Nobody else will be arrested and executed just because someone accuses them of commiting a crime.
