Narrow casting and Acxiom

In my elective class, we talked about how campaigns play a huge effect on the election process.

For example, John Kerry used "narrow casting" to win votes. Narrow casting is sectioning out minority groups and interest groups and talking with that group, and having them vote for that candidate. Narrow casting I feel is probably why minority groups vote for the people they do. Do you think so?

Also there's a company out there (Acxiom) that has secret information about you in computers dealing with race to what kind of ice cream you like. Do you feel comfortable with database companies holding information about you and your family in their computers for other people use to persuade you? I don’t! I would feel like someone is stalking me. THAT’S CREEPY!

First off, "narrow casting" can be a great way to persuade people by targeting them during election times, so I agree that minority groups vote for who they do because of this. narrow casting allows that whom is running to target a smaller group, in-turn leaving more and having more impact on that group of people, causing their opinions and ideas to change.
On Acxiom, I don't like the fact that companies have all of that information (personal and not) on people, as it could be used for more than just "narow casting" (people can do anything with a detailed contact info.). For things like ice cream, big deal, but if the list gets that in depth, I think that it can be a problem on a large scale if in the wrong hands, and it may bring people a persuasive lecture that they didn't want to be apart of. So both are bad. And beyond that, it makes us feel like we're always being watched, and this isn't The Truman Show!
