Now that we have just finished reading My Antonia, how do you feel about the novel? Do you like that we read the book in such a fast time frame and then logged on how we felt about each particular book?
After our experience building the sod houses, what do you think it would be like to be an immigrant coming to America in such difficult times? How do you think your life would have been similar/different to the life of the Shimerdas when they came here? How would you feel if you had to get up every day and work instead of going to school to learn and eventually get a good job?
We can all learn lessons from the book My Antonia, what did you learn?

First of all, I didn't really like this book. I thought it was boring, and slow at many places but in some placed I liked it. Some of the books had a lot of things going on, such as Book 5, and I liked those books because they kept my attention. I didn't like reading the book in such a fast time frame, because I like to read books over a little longer period of time. I feel that if we read books at a faster pace, there is just too much to digest, and we don't get it all. I think that we should read the next book over a long period of time. I liked that we logged on each book though because it orginized my understanding of the book. After building the houses, I think i twould be very hard for an immigrant during these difficult times. They had to stuggle with many issues, such as language, and shelters. They did not know great English, and it could have been very hard for them to communicate with other people. Also, it was hard for them to build shelters, such as sod houses in some cases. I take for granted coming to school every day, because I would not rather working in the fields every day. I prefer to get a good education and go to school.

I feel that this book was very good. Even though we read it so fast it was very good. I thought that it was very exciting. I liked how it went very fast and it jumped from place to place that fast. I think that if we read this over a longer period of time it would have been better.

In my perspective, I felt this book was very confusing. I had a hard time understanding the major conflict of the book. Specifically, since there was five book in total there was no main conflict. Cathor, the author, also made My Antonia hard to comprehend because of her style of writing. Cather was in descriptive; she missed many key points and events during the book. In contrast, in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the author used dialect that made the book more interesting and easier to understand.

I agree with Sean. We read the book way too fast, and it wasnt a very good one either. I think that working on the sod houses was fun, and a creative way to get us thinking about how the people had to live. The immigrant life seemed very hard, it was a lot of work. I would not have liked to get up and work every day, i would rather get an education and make money that way.
I didn't really like this book in a whole. I felt that the book got better neer the end, but it was very bleek and boring. I feel we read this book to fast. It wasn't a book that you could just pic up and read it for an hour or two. It made it hard to read all the assigned reading in time. I liked building the sod house. It would be very difficult though to build a full sod house. After an hour and a half of building the sod house we only had about a foot of sod down. That was also with 30 people. It would also be very hard to live in this house during the winter. It doesn't seem like it would be very warm. I think that this has shown us how much we have taken school for granted and how easy it is. There are a lot harder things in life then school, also school helps us get a good education so that we can invent things to make this easier.

I actually liked this book. I love how Cather portrayed Jim and Antonia's relationship. However, I don't like how there wasn't really a traditional plot. There was really no cimax to the book at all.
I definitely think that building the sod houses was really fun. Although it was fun, it wasn't very realistic. I think that our teachers made it as realistic as they could, but we'll never fully understand what it was like to live on the plains.

I didn't really like this book. I think we read the book way to fast. We read the entire book in about a week and a half, I think that is way to fast to read a book. I also didn't like logging all what we read, I think it was a waste of time for 4 paragraphs per book. For instance the themes section was mostly the same through the entire book, so I didn't understand why we had to write it over and over again.
I think it would be very hard to be an immigrant of those times, because you really don't know the language or anything else about the country. Even building a sod house a foot of the ground was harder work than I thought it would be. I wouldn't want to get up and work everyday instead of going of to school and learning, and then getting a good job. I learned that it was harder than I thought to grow up and raise a family in those times.
