Michelle's 1st Impression of Black Boy
So I just finished reading ch.1 of Black Boy and I thought it was pretty interesting. Richard seems to be a pretty curious guy especially when he lit the curtains on fire and then just sat kind of hid in the house while it was burning until his dad came to get him. I also thought it was interesting how Richard and his brother killed the cat. Like I'm not sure if they knew that that's what the white people did to the black people, but if they did I would think that they wouldn't have killed the cat in the first place. I also thought it was sad that their dad left them to live with another woman and he didn't even leave them with any money or food. I don't know if the dad will be coming up in any of the other chapters, but if he does I don't think he will be of any help 'cause so far he's been a real jerk and I don't really like him. So I was just wondering what everybody else thought of the book so far-->what you liked, what you didn't like, or even who you did or didn't like.
Okay, thanks,
Michelle

I agree with michelle about the dad. What kind of father would leave his kids just to live with another woman. Possibly in a later chapter there will be a different reason why he left that could be justified, but now he's just seeming like a real big jerk.
So far I think the book is pretty interesting. In this book the characters are very unique. Typically you read books about a heroic or brave character. But in this book, it shows more of your average joe. I am looking forward to see how the book changes and develops the characters. Maybe they will turn into heroes..?
After reading chapter one, I thought the book was pretty interesting. The book is very descriptive and very blunt. I like the way that nothing is sugar-coated to make it seem like the south wasn't as bad as it was. Most ofthe characters made a strong first impression, like the fater. Even before he left his family, it was easy to tell that he wasn't a nice guy. I am really interested to see what the characters develop into and what toher things they will go through.

I definitely agree with Michelle about this book. She was right about the dad. I don't like his character at all, and it really bothered me how he wouldn't even spare a little change for his starving children. I think that the characters are all very different but each one has an interesting place in the book.
I also agree with Michelle about the dad. How could you leave your own flesh and blood alone and starving? If you were going to do that why have children at all? What this man did was juvenile, selfish, and so uncalled for that he should be shot. And I also agree with Alex P. I bet that in a later chapter in the book there will be a bigger reason why that scumbag left his family behind to suffer. But, he better have a good reason because what he did was uncalled for. You never know, there could have been some foreshadowing in the book that I didn't catch. I just hope that all of this get justified later in the book and things start to go right for this little boy.
Thanks,
Mike
