What could have been done differently at Virginia Tech?

As you all might have heard, there was a horrific shooting at Virginia Tech a few days ago. Many innocent people both young and old were killed and very injured. The investagation is still being taken care of and closely looked at. Some of the students that I have heard on the news and read online were aware of what was going on as it was happening after being able to check their email early in the morning. The school sent out an email and tried to worn the students of what was going on and to keep them cautious and stay locked inside their dorm rooms. Others were still walking to class with much precaution. Many people are wondering if the school did enough to keep everyone and every classroom safe. What do you think? Do you think there is anything else the school could do to keep people aware and safe? What about keeping people calm? What do you think about schools teaching their students what to do in case of a lock down or emergency?

I think that the entire Virginia Tech incident could have been handeled in a very different way. Instead of just sending out e-mails, they could have put the kids on lockdown in their dorms and called in the police force to secure the campus before the incident occured. This probably would have been the best way to prevent deaths. The majority of the students would be contained, and there wouldn't be a massive chaotic frenzy all over the campus like thier would have been if the situation was announced to the entire population. I think there were many other ways they could have handeled this and I think its a very good idea to teach students about what to do in case of emergency and how to contact people in charge immediately so bad situations are less likely to become worse.

I believe the school should have done much more then they did do. Virgina Tech should have immediately canceled all classes and told everyone to stay in there rooms not only in an email, but something which would immediately notified the students to get them out of harms way. Some sort of loud speaker in the dorms or a mass phone call.
I also think if anyone just cared enough to just ask what was the matter or why he was upset like 5 months before. If he just had one person to talk to about it, just one person who would just sit and listen. Someone who actually cared and was there for him it probably would all have been avoided. It just shows you, you never know who is going through what, so you should always be there to listen to your friends and make sure there ok.
