When watching the movie yesterday on 1920s and 1930s art, I felt that much of it was about the future. In that time period people felt as though the future would be completely different from that time. Some felt that the expansion of city life was ruining the American way of life. Some felt that expansion was the only way our country was going to strive forward.
How do you think America will be in the future?
Will it have flying cars and robots or will it be the same?
What do you think would be good changes, and what do you think would be bad ones?

I think that we won't have flying cars or robots. America is already a fat country, and I think robots would make it quicker. I think that some good changes would be a quicker way of transport, and a way to repair the ozone layer. I think a bad change would be a bomb that could blow up an entire countinent.

Well, there are many different takes on the future. I mean, look at George Orwell; whether he was serious when depicting the future in 1984 or not, he still predicted something that's entirely different from what we have already. Isaac Asimov had this huge visionary that robots would be a major trade by the 70s. Again, whether he honestly thought this would happen by this time or not is completely subjective, but regardless, he still made some kind of prediction.
What I see the future being is something that most science fiction visionaries envision: a totalitarian society. Though it's something I dread, when I look at organizations like the UN and the different social reforms, all I can see is that the government is putting their hands into our lives more and more, and quick frankly, I'm about ready to file sexual harassment on it for getting too close. I don't look to the future and see things like blaster pistols and flying cars. I ook into the future and see the corruption that's threading its way into our government and ourselves. No matter how responsible the government is for our screw-ups, you have to admit that the people are to blame more than the Man because, after all, who put them in office? Along with the corruption (and these go hand-in-hand) are the partisan politics. If Wal-Mart has taught us anything, it's that monopolies, like dictatorships, will corrupt the mind. I look at the US Congress and I think, 'If these guy's *really* want to be bi-partisan... why are they automatically dismissing other's ideas?' Neither party is innocent of this, and it needs to be stopped if we don't want "1984" to happen.
Just think... Thought Police and Big Brother. Oh, what a life.

I think that the way technology is heading us, we are going to have everything smaller and able to do a lot more. I dont think robots or flying cars are in our century. some good changes would be to motivate ourselves to help underpriviledged people in other countries, like the "red" campaign. some bad changes to America would be if we didn't try to make our country better and safer.

A good gauge on how the future will look is by looking back in history to see what has changed. This will yield some general idea on how far life will move towards the future and how long it will take. The real question that should be asked is not if it will happen in the future, but when it will happen- if ever. "The future" is an indefinite amount of time. For example it will be "the future" by the time you are done reading this comment. Flying cars are around today for purchase if you have the wallet for one. They are no more advanced than a plain with street tires, but as with all other inventions, should progress in the future. Robots are already a major part of human life. Judging by the speed of technological advancements that have been made in the past several years, robots will quickly have the potential to perform several more "human" tasks then they already do now. As with the present there are "good" things and there are "bad" things. In the future, it’s hard to believe that all "bad" will melt away. There is no telling what living conditions will be available. This is why it is called the future, and the best ways to prepare for “this future” is to live, learn, and protect now.

It seems like that most of the changes that are happening today is to make our lives more comftorable. So I think that our country in the future will be very relaxed. Many people will not have to do nearly as many things physically as they do now. I think that there will be "Robots" or things that will go get things for us in our houses. Their will also be a big change in the cars and transportation. There will be better public transportation and people that have cars, which will be a lot of people, are not going to have to stear at all. They allready came out with the car that can parallel park on its own so in the future it will be the driving. The movie iRobot inspired all of the these ideas, which is a great movie, and shwos the ideal future with robots and cars that drive theirselves. Though the robots go destructive and kill people, the other futuristic ideas are good. Their will be bad ideas in the future but I believe that those ideas will get shot down by politicians because by then we will know every bad thing and be wiser about what we put into production.

Looking back at how far America has come since 1776, I think the future will be drastically different. However, the term 'the future' depends on each person's beliefs of when the future is. It could be in a year, in a decade, or in a century. Technology has obviously come a very long way in the past century. The computer was invented in the 20s and the television came about in 1939. Since then the world has been rapidly progressing forward.
I would love to believe that there will be flying cars and high tech houses in my future, like in the television shows “The Jetsons” and “Smart House”, but I don't think this is likely. I imagine the future, in our lifetime, holding huge medical and science advancements. Such as cures for diseases, easier surgeries, prevention for many illnesses and things like this. I hope that the future will come to bring things like a cure for AIDS. With new technological advances also come the frighteningly powerful weapons. There will be more ways to kill people and destroy so much. I think that it is great that the human race has come to be so knowledgeable, but it is not necessary for these high-tech weapons.

I think that for sure in MANY years we will have flying cars and all the wonders we see in the movies. Many companies have already come up with flying cars, robots, toasters that perfectly toast your toast, but they are not able to mass produce them at a price that is cheep enough for even the low high class. They are already launching tourists into space for 300,000 dollars. The world will soon become extremely technologically advanced, but i think it will be towards the end of most of our lifetimes.

I think in the future we won't have anything like flying cars, but the world will be much different. We will have to use other sources of energy because we waste so much oil. Hopefully we will still be able to have all the things we have know and more, but that could change if we run out of oil.

In the future, I think that China and maybe Great Britain will rise to rival the US as super powers. I don't think that Great Britain will turn on us but China might. I think that flying cars will come within 65-75 years and will use other sources of fuel besides oil. This may lead to WWIII since we wont need the middle eastern countries for it anymore. I don't think that robots will come anytime soon but when they do the human race will just become lazier. The robot would be a very bad change. The flying car would be good for the environment but very bad for politics.

I think that the expansion wasn't ruining the Americans way of life but it was helping us to get to the future that we all wanted. This was one big step towards the future but people at that time did not think that way. People constintly hoped for a great future thinking it would be filled with amazing things but when something like expansion came along we were against it. We wanted to have a great things in our future to happen but we wanted them right away and did not want to go along for the ride.
I think the future will be just as great as all the t.v. shows shows us. It will have jetpacks and flying cars, but we have to wait and go along for the ride. One day the future will come and hopefully be as wonderful as we all dream it to be.

Learning about the 1920 and 30s really shows how much America has changed and invented new technical devices. I think in the future we won't have flying cars, but definatly robots. I think that all means of transportation will improve to become bigger and faster. I believe our future will result in higher prices on goods with a huge change in the economy. I know that all these shortcuts in new technology could not be good because too many people rely on them and won't be able to adapt when they are gone.

I am not quite sure how the future will be. It is a tough topic because when I was in fifth grade, I would always hear about how in 2000 there will be flying cars, and the technology will be out of this world. I look at that now, and realize how "stupid" I was.
Some good changes would be a better form of surgery, and a cure for many harmful diseases and viruses. A bad change would be something that could destroy our world by warfare.

I like to think that we will have flying cars just because it sounds so cool, but I don't think it will get that extreme. I think computers will get upgraded even more, along with the ways of transportation, but no flying cars. This is rare, but a good change would be befriending nations that don't particularly like us. Also, stopping wars and just making world peace is a big goal for America in the future. Bad changes could be using the new technology for bad things, like wars. Taking advantage of technology could be dangerous. There's no telling what could really happen in the future, we just have to wait and hope all turns out well.

In the future, I hope that technological advances are limited. We will lose the fun in life if everything is done for us by robots. I like to drive and I would be upset if I was not able to drive anymore and some robot was doing it for me. I also think that people will become lazy if they do not have to do any daily tasks or chores. People will lose their work ethic and lose their jobs to machines. I hope that the future does not do everything for people because people will become lazy and worthless.
