Which semster do you like better: first or second and do you think you are going to take Excel next year?
I like second semester better becasue I like that fact that we see all of our teachers and we won't miss any assignments. I didn't like first semester because it was my first time and I felt that I was being left out because sometimes I didnt understand the material and didnt ask questions. I also felt like that because sometimes I wouldnt know what I had to do for homework.
But now I know the things to do better in class. Based on what people told me about next year's Excel, I'm not going to take it because I feel that I am not ready for it but I did have fun in Excel.

Welcome to our class's blog. We are discussing the latest topics we're studying in American history and literature. This website has been active since December 2005. Selected Excel 10 students will take turns posting their thoughts, and other Excel 10 students will comment on these posts. Parents, staff, and other interested persons are invited to add their comments on our musings. Any inappropriate comments will be deleted.

I dont really know which semester I like better yet. We arent really that far into the second semester, but I like that we are beginning to get more in depth about events that occured more recently than things we studied in the first semster.
I decided not to take excel next year because I was recommended to take A.P. Language. I hear that it forces you to become a better write and can greatly benefit you on Standardized Tests. I would like to have taken excel, but I also don't think I could handle have the same class twice a day every day.

I agree that second semester has gone far more smoothly so far. We have been able to interact with all aspects of what we are studying, book analysis, history, and poetry. I like begin able to see all of our teachers because that way if i don't understand only one aspect of what we are studying, i have the oppertunity to ask a ateacher that is more qualified to answer.
I am pretty sure that I will be doing excel nnext year, because I enjoy haveing our English and History classes correlate.

Personally, I'm not really sure which semester I like better. I think that it was difficult with the first semester simply because not only were all 65 of us (or however many) starting another school year, but also, we had never done a class at Groves that molded two classes together. It was confusing with Mentor vs. Seminar, Blogging vs. Responding, and there were a lot of books to read constantly. I was not used to that, and I think it was the adapting stage that made this semester difficult. But, at the same time, I enjoyed the hands on things we did like the sod houses, Ellis Island sim., and other FUN projects that we had, rather than just sitting in desks like our other classes in the day.
Second semester has been pretty good, and seems to be not as rushed, which I certainly like. But, we haven't done as many hands-on things, but Semester 2 is young. I'm not sure which one I like better, but so far they both have their positives and negatives.
I'm pretty sure that I'm taking Excel next year because I like how the class is combined, and is something different (I hope it is next year) than an average Engligh and S.S. clas.

I'm liking second semester a lot better this time around. First semester took a while to get used to, and it seemed really unorganized at times. Plus, some of the things we were learning seemed really boring to me. This semester seems a lot more organized and intersting.
I'm for sure taking Excel next year. I'm not so great of a writer. I'll admit, I hate English with a passion, and I have a really stubborn mind that rarely changes. So even if I get the best English teacher in the world, I dont think I'd ever like English. Excel is MUCH easier for me simply because it eases the pain of having to take an English class by coating it with a nice layer of Social Studies (yummie). Also, I love the benefit of knowing that the Excel teachers wont change the next semester, and the fact you get to know the Excel teachers a lot more than you would a normal teacher. It makes a nice warm, comfterable and more family-like enviroment that makes you do work, but the work seems less like a chore and more like a learning journey.

Well, I'm not sure about the second semester yet because it is still the beginning. I didn't enjoy the first semester because it was too unorganized and chaotic. Maybe it was because it was my first class i have taken that was 90 min., but I just thought some of the books we read were dry and not interesting. This second semester is more organized and I hope it stays that way. I think the Harlem Renaissance poems and "Black Boy" is a good start into a new semester.
I decided to take excel next year, but I'm kind of regreting my decision because 140 min. is a long time to sit in a classroom for one class. I went towards taking excel 11 because it is all about global issues which is very interesting.

I really dont think we have had enough of second semester to know which I like better. If second semester is consistantly how it is right now then I like first semester way better. I do not think i will like excel next year and that is why I am not going to take it. I have heard a lot of bad things from my friends and personally i do not want to have only essays on tests!

This is a bit of a tough question to answer because we havent really experienced much of the second semester. I loved the teachers in first and i learned a lot of interesting things. I feel smart now that its done especially because i studied so hard for the final. Mrs. Z is sweet so far so i will answer this question again towards the end of the year.

So far I like second semester a lot better. I feel as if it is more organized. I always know my homework assignments and when they are due, compared to last semester when there was more confussion. Also, I think excel is a lot different from other history and english classes so it took me a while to get used to everything.
I came to the decision that next year I am not going to take excel. I think the classes are going to be too long. Also, I want to go back to seperate classes for history and english.

As of now, I think that I like second semester better so far. I find the material that we are learning much more interesting. I agree with Kelsie how it is more interesting that we are learning more about recent events than early history.
I decided to take Excel next year, because I love the Excel program. Taking excel has tought me to become a much better writer, and i like how it intertwines with our current events.
