During our discussion the other day, we talked about how the whole sterilization idea was started here in the United States. Personally, I was completely shocked to hear this. The fact that Germany and other parts of Europe were not the originators changed my thinking process quite a bit. I am not saying that it's ok that they did that, but it's interesting to keep uncovering things about our government that have been hidden all these years.
I know I don't keep up with the news religiously but I watch it enough to have an idea about current events. This sort of reminded me of when we learned about FEMA and their lack of effectiveness, and other events where the government was sneaking around without revealing the whole truth until much later. I am wondering; were you shocked to hear this? Did it get you thinking about what other secrets or scandals are kept within our government? If not, explain your reaction. Why do you feel this way?

I had the same reaction that Jorden had, shock. I counldn't believe that someone would sterilize another human being without their knowledge.i personally do not find this interesting, i find it disgusting and tragic. I would be devastated if i were to find out i had been sterilized.
I agree with Jorden when she compares FEMA to sterilization. I felt when reading the article that it was completely the governments fault. I think that when talking about this subject they act very sneaky.
The government know that it was wrong but i think they don't knoiw how to make up for their mistake. It makes me scared that they could be lieing about so much more and more serious issues. In all i agree with Jorden.
I was also stunned at how this mass sterlization started in America. Being Jewish I feel the effects of the process in Europe first hand and I am shocked to hear it all started in The U.S.

When we read the article about the sterilization, I was in just as much shock as Jordan. How could people be so heartless and do that to somebody. I felt really bad for Elaine Riddick because she had no idea that she was sterilized when she was younger. I would be furious if I found out that I couldn’t have a baby because the government went behind my back and took it away from me. I’m so disgusted with this article; it almost makes me sick to think about.
I am concerned about the government. What if they aren’t telling us everything we should know. I would think that the government would have improved since this incident, or at least I hope so. I would hate to hear about another misconception like this story.

After reading this article, it made me think about what scandals are happening in the government. Some of those scandals could be cheating in voting polls, lying about giving money to charity organizations, like the Katrina Foundation, and maybe giving food to Iraqis after the war. I really hope that nothing is happening in the government because if there is something then it will cause a crisis in America.
I was shocked to hear that people were being sterilized. I think that it is a horrible thing and no one could ever repay the people that were effected in this procedure. The government should feel really stupid that this happened. The reparations that were and are given should be either tons of money or some type of special American badge, like they get to do what ever they want and get whatever they want. I think that sterilization is a horrible thing and it never should have been done to anyone, let alone not telling them.

I was definitely shocked when I learned this. I immediately started thinking of other scandals that the government doesn't share with us. Particularly, the theory that Osama Bin Laden has been captured, but our government will not tell us. I kind of understand why the government keeps some things hidden, it's because they want to protect us. However, hiding sterilization is in no way, shape, or form protecting the American people. In fact, it is hurting us. I understand the need for some sort of population control, but sterilization is not only unnecessary, but morally wrong.

being jewish this article discusts me and i can not belive that the jews moved to america even though the germans got the idea from america.
To answer Jordan's question, I was also shocked that the U.S. Government would sterilize another human being, but also find a way to go under on the radar. Sterilizing is one of the worst things you can do to a human being, it is immorally wrong. The Government was taking the hopes and dreams of a poor young girl to have a baby in her future. Sterilization is almost the equivalent to murder.
This horrible event shows what the media can do a group of people. Like the Germans one can say that the U.S Government was using propaganda. The Government did not want to get a bad reputation, so they clearly blamed Germany without taking any blame of their own.
After reading this article, I ask my self whom am I supposed to trust? I am most afraid that the Government is lying about a major issue in the world. It frightens me to know that history tends to repeat itself.
